I grew up in Ohio, in a farming village where everyone was white and protestant. But now I have had my last name (and my husband) and have lived in California more than twice as long as I ever lived in Ohio, and my perspective has broadened accordingly. I started writing when my dream job as an industrial hygienist/occupational toxicologist went away.
“ There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.” — Nelson Mandela
My husband and I like to travel to places that are changing, environmentally or socially, and writing helps me remember those experiences. Real life is pretty funny––except when it isn’t––so in other essays I try to capture the humor and absurdities of my everyday life.
I’ve taken just enough writing classes to make me want to be better, and having an audience helps me get there. That’s where you come in. I hope you enjoy reading my posts. Visit often!
